The Mother of all Mothers – Meet Lady Goo Goo Gaga

I have decided to show you all who I really am.  My name is Nicole and I am just like you.  I am a regular mom. I am also a makeup artist, and a professional writer.  Here I will show a day in the life of Lady Goo Goo Gaga in Goopville, otherwise known as West Hartford, Connecticut.

I typically wake up to my iphone telling me to wake up to bring Michael to school.  He is a walker this year -aka “person driven by his mother because we are all too tired to wake up early enough to walk.”

I wake up at 7:30 and he has to be at school by 7:50.  Needless to say I don’t look my best during this morning drive.  I spent years ridiculing mothers who didn’t bother wearing a bra or wore their pajamas to the bus stop or school pickup.  Sadly, I am now one of those mothers -but I am safely hidden inside of my vehicle.  I come home by 7:55 and send Sam off to the bus stop, eat something quick, drink a few sips of coffee and hit the gym

If it’s nice out and I am limited on time. I will go for a quick 3 mile run.  As much as I talk badly about Goopville, it is actually a beautiful place to live and I really enjoy my neighborhood runs.

Here I am ready to go in my amazing Athleta pants.

Running in these was great because they really suck everything in.  There’s nothing worse than jogging down the street with your fat stomach hanging over your pants, and someone you know sees you and honks the horn.

On the weekends when I run, my boys run outside and bring me water when they see me coming down the street towards home.   When it’s a school day I have to get my own water like a peasant.

I always think I have more time than I do.  I am in a rush to meet my old friend in Blue Back Square for coffee.  The great thing about my Athleta outfit is that I can pull my hair out of a ponytail and look kind of normal for a coffee date.

I can always coerce my out-of-town friends to meet me in Goopville because it is such a great town with so many great places for coffee and food and drinks!!  This is an old friend who had kids way after me – and I famously made fun of her blogged about her – here! she adorned her child with baby tiaras and 500 pairs of shoes when she was a week old.

This coffee date is short-lived because I am always on a major time crunch.  Next up. Pedicure.  After that – I have to run to the grocery store.  Groceries are something that last mere minutes in my household. Each time I go – I think it will be my last trip for days.  I find myself back in the store daily.

I am running late now for my one true love.  Tennis.

I play in a bunch of clinics and private lessons each week. I throw a skirt over my Athleta capri pants – and am ready to go.

After tennis, I rush to meet my friend for a working lunch.  We try to meet once a week to bounce ideas off of each other.  She is a writer and life coach @militaryspousecoach  and she probably helps me more than I help her.  But I provide “laughter therapy” for her during our “working lunch” and as a result – we sometimes get no work done at all.

I like to pop into Barnes and Noble and peruse the magazines and books for ideas for my writing.  Whether it’s beauty, weddings, or parenting – there is always more to read about and learn!!

Next, I have to run to my hairdresser appointment.  I always get blonde highlights in the beginning of the summer because it makes feel young and full of life.

I am a makeup artist for Laura Mercier Cosmetics and IT Cosmetics.  I also do private clients and weddings and photo shoots.  I am lucky because I can make my own schedule for the most part – but I am at the mercy of my clients – so I often have to run to meet clients on my “day off.”

Today was one of those days.  I am also lucky – because one the stores that I can work in is right in the center of town, Blue Mercury.  I rush to meet my client from my hair appointment.  Thankfully – I have a proper shoe in my car that I can throw on and look somewhat professional in my Athleta capris that I ran in and played tennis in earlier!!  Time to work!!

After my client is finished – I rush off again to get home for the kids.  It’s the last day of school thank God!!! I have no time to change so I head off to a neighborhood pool party to celebrate, in my Athleta outfit.

After the party is over, we head home.

It’s time for me to unwind so I meet friends out for happy hour at a new restaurant in West Hartford Center.

After a long day in this Athleta outfit it’s time to head home!! But my work is never done.

I have articles due from PopSugar and Martha Stewart Weddings so I head to my laptop to write. After I crank out a few articles – it’s time to head up to bed.

I really should shower.

I have had a long day in these Athleta pants.

But I make the mistake of laying down next to a snoring Mr. Gaga. Because while I run around doing 500 things – somehow he has gone to bed. I lay down in my bed and I just cannot make myself get back up.

I will take these pants off tomorrow….maybe……

Good night.

  1. Nicole, you rock! Your blog is one of the few that I read, and sometimes I don’t think I could get through motherhood without it. Thank you for bringing so many tears of laughter into my eyes when I need them most.

  2. This sounds like a fabulous life! You get to go to the gym, run, play tennis, have coffee, king and dinner with friends all in one day!?! This is like a dream!

  3. I hate KNOWING who you are, but at the same time I’m glad to know who you are! You are a very beautiful and F-U-N-N-Y person!!! I hope that you don’t stop doing your blog each week, because that’s the only reason I like to get the week started. Looking forward to more stories of the families of Goopville!!!

  4. I have loved your blog. Not knowing who you are and where you live was so much part of the fun. I am from CT too. Knowing who you are and where you live will get some getting used to. I do wish it was still a secret and wonder if this means you have “sold out” to athleta, blue mercury, starbucks and all of the other product mentions. :) But I also want to be supportive of what is your authentic truth of where you wanted to go with your blog. So in solidarity I will of course keep reading. I hope it will remain as hilarious as it has been. Because that is what we need as Mom’s – lots of laughter and authenticity. Prefer to see less about the specifics of what you look like, where you go etc. It sort of spoils the fun. What do you think? Congrats on coming out!

    1. I know Carla!! I can’t please everyone – but I wanted to come out and I wanted to include some companies that I like in the process – I will continue to be my true self – you can’t imagine how many product promotion posts I have turned down over the course of 7 years because I didn’t want to be a sell-out!! Thanks for reading! xx

  5. Great job Nicole! I have read all of your blogs and I love to hear about the crazy things my brother, you, Michael and Sam are doing that week. Good luck in your journeys ahead….
